1. Who we are

Linda Mwananchi is the data controller for the personal data collected through this platform. We use it to run the party's membership register, party primaries and internal elections, and the member services described below, and for nothing else.

2. What we collect

• National ID number, first, last and other names, gender and date of birth
• Disability status, only if you choose to disclose it
• Phone number, and email address if you choose to give one
• Your voting locality: county, constituency, ward and polling centre
• Your declaration about previous political party membership
• Volunteer and polling-centre-agent sign-up details, for those who join the field team
• Records of the services you use here: verification checks, USSD and SMS interactions, and registration attempts (kept only in pseudonymised form, for statistics)

3. Why we use it

• To maintain an accurate party membership register and issue your membership number
• To confirm your entries against the voter register when you ask us to
• To contact you about your membership and party matters by SMS or email
• To coordinate the party's volunteers and polling centre agents
• To plan inclusive services using anonymous age-group, gender and disability statistics
• To run party nominations, primaries and internal elections you take part in
• To meet the party's legal obligations, including submissions to the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP)

4. Our lawful grounds

We process your data on the basis of the consent you give when applying, the party's legal obligations under the Political Parties Act (including maintaining a members' register and lodging it with the Registrar), and the legitimate administration of the party. Political-party membership is sensitive personal data, and we treat it that way.

5. Who we share it with

Your details are shared with the Registrar of Political Parties as the law requires, and with the service providers that deliver SMS messages and process M-Pesa payments on our behalf, who act only on our instructions. We never sell your data or share it for advertising.

6. How we protect it

Access is limited to authorised party officials on a need-to-know basis. Every change to the register goes through a maker–checker approval, so no single person can alter it alone, and a full audit trail records who did what and when. Data moves over encrypted connections.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your data while your membership is active and for the periods the law requires afterwards. If your application is rejected or you resign, we retain only what is needed as evidence of the decision and the statutory notifications.

8. Your rights

Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to:

• Be told how your data is used, and access what we hold about you
• Have inaccurate or misleading data corrected
• Ask for deletion of data we have no lawful reason to keep
• Object to processing, and withdraw your consent at any time
• Stop SMS messages at any time by replying STOP, or use the USSD self-service menu

If you believe your data has been mishandled, you may also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC).
